INTRODUCTION// What is BurdaStyle?
BurdaStyle is a woman’s fashion magazine which provides sewing instructions and patterns for garments presented in the publication.
The photography is superb. The shoot locations feel exotic. The fabric choices are perfect. The magazine does a great job at inspiring me to make clothing that I can easily see on a runway.
Without fail, I want to make every outfit in the magazine. And then I look at the enclosed pattern sheet.
It gets me every time. ALL OF THOSE LINES!?
I unfold the pattern sheet. Stare at it blankly. Then refold it and place it back into the magazine. The next edition will arrive, and I’ll do the same exact thing.
This was my modus operandi (for like, years) until I discovered BurdaStyle.com. The website contains the digital patterns for the more recent Burda Style magazines. I prefer these digital patterns to the magazine’s pattern sheet because there’s no tracing, you don’t have to locate pieces with multiple converging lines. There is a little bit of taping, but beyond that, it’s not much different using a standard tissue pattern.
The basic process for getting these patterns are:
- purchase the pattern,
- download it,
- and then print.
There’s no running to the store, standing in line, sitting in traffic, wasting gas, or trying the appease a toddler through it all.
In fact, for the cost of gas, you can avoid all of the hassles and have two new sewing patterns. (Gotta love a win-win!)
